Manic Depression (Bi-Polar Disorder)

Bi-Polar disorder is another moniker for the term "manic depression". When an individual is observed to display behaviours consisting of mood swings which are very irregular (with sudden changes from good to bad), this is commonly associated with being Bi-Polar. This is a specific type of depression. Manic depression isn't just having negative feelings over a negative event. Manic depression is far more sinister. The diagnosis of being Bi-Polar is just another stage of the disease of depression. Millions of people in the United States are diagnosed with Manic Depression every year. Depression of any generic form affects nearly 17 million Americans annually according to verified studies and research.

Unfortunately only about one-third of those will be diagnosed and receive relevant help as well as intervention. If you do not look for assistance then it is very hard to find a relevant cure. Mental illness is a definite red stop sign for many Americans (and anyone else for sure), which they wouldn't want to to be associated with. They do not want to be stereotyped as one who must be out of their mind. The stigma of a diagnosis is a hard pill to swallow. Nonetheless, such forms of disorder can be much like any other forms of medical condition which can be treated if it is identified in the earlier phase of onset.

The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession. There are many factors that bring on depression. It's well known that consideration must be given to chemical factors, a person's surroundings, and even their genes. For now, it seems to be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Work related issues or the dynamics of a dysfunctional family can also create such forms of illness or disorder. As a general note, depression knows no bounds. Both the rich and the poor can contract it. Race isn't an issue either. No color or nationality is free from this illness.

All the types of depression have similar symptoms. Dramatic shifts in personality and "up and down" mood swings are just some of them. Depression can result in insomnia. In addition, helpless feelings, or feelings that the future holds no hope are just some of the added signs. Depression is a credible threat when it interferes with your ability to live your life. Fortunately, folks with depression have a light at the end of the tunnel. Assistance is definitely available. Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it. There are also medical professionals that can help your illness through "talk theraphy". There are also many support groups that will help you deal with the disease. In summary, always seek the relevant forms of assistance available.
